Well, im going ot be getting a brand new Piaggio NRG hopefully, and just wonderign what shall i do to it, that will up the speed slightly, butn ot to much!
I want to get it derestricted, change the exhaust, and what else should i do to upgradd the speed and accelaration.
Secondly, how much does it cost to get it Derestricted at a typical garage. |

Hi Aaron and welcome to the forums!
For derestriction check out the second post in http://www.piaggioforums.com/forums/topic229.html
That in itself will probably get you to 80km/hr but remember it depends on how big you are. Some bikes go faster than others purely because the rider is fortunate enough to be a 30kgs lighter than the rider of the bike they're making the comparison with. Damn you little people

If I remember right it was a while ago now but it cost me either A$20 or A$50 to get the whole thing done which included getting the fuel injection remapped for the Purejet. You won't have to worry about this last one.
I still have only a completely stock but derestricted bike that is fast enough in traffic. One day I will be able to afford a nice new exhaust... |

Try run the engine in a little first so don't get it derestricted till youve hit 500-1000kms. Its hard waiting than long I know...
If you're going to get an exhaust I'd probably just rip the brass ring out, swap the stock exhaust for a new one, upsize the jet in the carby and get the thing tuned. No use cutting tubes off exhausts if youre just going to swap it for a different one.
Taking the ring out with instantly give you another 20+km/hr
I'd then concentrate on getting the engine running smoothly first after these changes before you start playing with the variator weights. You never know, you might be happy with the performance without having to play with the gearbox at all. |

So what will they do standardly at the De Restriction process, The one that costs around £50?
Then after this is done, would you say get the exhaust then fit the rollers that come with it. And then start to take out the washer etc..?
Finally would you recommend keeping the stock exhaust until I get it derestricted or can I upgrade the exhaust as soon as i get it? Whats best?
Sorry for the dumb questions and taking up your time!
Thanks for your help, im clueless on scooters and the tuning. |

I think just try and wait till at least 500kms,then get them to take out the variator washer, and this will make a huge difference, you could probably even get them to do that now,but you would have to take it reasonably easy most times, until 1000kms.
Leave the stock exhaust on till you hit at least 1000kms,where you then can consider a new pipe and rollers, but do your homework on pipes now, with such quality brands as Leo Vince, and Giannelli. _________________ Piaggio NRG PureJet |

Cool, I will follow those steps. Well i have been looking into the PM Tuning 360 Exhaust system, its £115, and is supposed to be one of the best out there, its on the back of the Twist and Go magazine over here in the UK. Lovely pipe, what do you think?
Im also stuck now between a Brand New NRG or Aprilia SR50. |

Don't Know what that exhaust looks like, but i have heard good things of PM Tuning.
Hard choice between the NRG & SR50. I had that exact delema when i was in the market, and since both are injected, the real differences came down to the NRG having slightly better overall build & material quality, lower, more comfortable flat seat, bigger underseat storage, which takes a full face helmet, and a flat footwel, which makes for a more comfortable and practical bike.
I think they both look nice, and but still lean towards the NRG.
Keep these things in mind, and try them both out,and see which feels more suited to you. Because the NRG is only offered as a carbed model there, this is still no bad thing, because it should feel more characterful, against the injected Aprilia.
It will be interesting to know your thoughts, should you test them both. _________________ Piaggio NRG PureJet |

I think i will just go for the NRG. The Aprilia SR50 Injected version is £1999 and the NRG DD Liquid Cooled is £1700. Saving myself £300, and its not a huge difference. NRG it is. And yeh PM tuning are great, they have alot of products and do have really good reviews. Think thats the pipe i will go for. Thanks for your help :D
I cant test them out as im not 16 yet, and i want to have it ordered by March, ready to ride June time. So I will just go for the NRG. I have heard good stuff about it! |

Good choice!
'Scootin' Magazine of the Netherlands, did a full comparison test shootout between the Piaggio NRG DD, Gilera Runner SP,& Yamaha Jog RR, and the NRG was the best in all area's,and there-for,the winner of the test.
Certainly is a special bike, you will absolutely love it! _________________ Piaggio NRG PureJet |
